Our actions
The way we work
We act in complementarity with Global Fund programs. Our technical assistance missions and the projects we support aim to strengthen access to and implementation of its grants, improve health systems and support civil society actors.

Technical assistance
The Expertise Channel is the L'Initiative's technical assistance mechanism. Assignments take place throughout the year for varying periods of time. The objective is to support stakeholders responding to pandemics to access to and implement Global Fund
grants, taking a capacity building approach.

Funding projects
L'Initiative supports medium-term catalytic projects to change health policy and practice. L'Initiative supports the Global Fund’s ecosystem and the response to pandemics, with a particular focus on local and national stakeholders.

HIV/AIDS
In 2019, ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic isn’t just a moral obligation to the 39 million people who have lost their lives to the disease, it’s also a step forward, toward a more just and equitable world for future generations.
Malaria
L'Initiative is funding operational research to monitor the effectiveness of new tools and test out innovative responses to growing resistances to drugs and insecticides in particular.
Tuberculosis
L'Initiative funds operational research projects that evaluate innovative strategies for improving screening and treatment.
Supporting Global Fund funding rounds
L'Initiative's work complements the Global Fund and mobilizes experts for assignments that facilitate access to and monitoring of funding. These missions illustrate well the work done by L'Initiative, and accounted for 80% of expert missions in 2017.
SUPPORTTING INSTITUTIONS
We support countries to increase the share of domestic resources in national budgets and strengthen their health systems.
SUPPORTING CIVIL SOCIETY
We are committed to working with civil society and community organizations to strengthen their role in the fight against pandemics.
SUPPORTING RESEARCHERS
We support operational research because it helps to design the tools best suited to the challenges posed by diseases.

Our impact
Since its creation in 2011, L'Initiative has emerged as a key player in the fight against pandemics. The technical support mechanism has gained recognition from both beneficiaries and supervisory authorities.
